Reflections of a Former Coach: Setbacks and Comebacks

In this personal and vulnerable blog post, I reflect on my transformative years coaching at the University of Colorado. As I prepare to embark on a new journey in entrepreneurship, I am filled with gratitude for the challenges, triumphs, and lessons that have shaped me. It’s a heartfelt tribute to my team, mentors, and the dance community, inspiring the transition to this next adventure in life.

As I sit down to reflect on my time coaching at the University of Colorado, a whirlwind of memories and emotions flood through my mind. Five years have flown by, each season bringing its own challenges, triumphs, and most importantly, lessons. Now, as I embark on a new chapter in life, chasing the dream of entrepreneurship, I find myself filled with gratitude for the journey I've had and the incredible team that made it all worthwhile.

In the heat of the moment, coaching can feel like under appreciated work, but what I've learned over these past few weeks is that when you pour your heart and soul into something or someone, all that energy eventually comes flooding back to you. Now more than ever, I have felt the endless support from my athletes, fellow coaches, and the dance community. Although this change of leadership was abrupt and devastating, I've realized that all those years of sleepless nights, tough conversations, personal sacrifices, and behind-the-scenes efforts, have come back to me in such a beautiful and unexpected way. Coaching isn't about the trophies, status or ego. It's about fostering authentic relationships, empowering one another, and coming out on the other side as better humans.

In my final season at CU, it wasn't the glitz and glam that stood out but rather the profound impact of the small things: the seniors' unwavering advocacy, Rylee's comforting hugs, Elizabeths encouraging texts, the sophomores' being my part-time dog sitters and the weird and goofy moments that would be incomprehensible to any outsider. My team cared for me as much as they cared for each other. Through the highs and lows of competition, the long practice hours, and moments of quiet support, we found strength in unity. Their support never failed to reignite my spark during moments when I felt my light dimming.

My dancers weren't just athletes I trained; they were family.

As I turn the page to this next chapter, I am fueled by the fire and loyalty instilled in me by all of my dancers. The coaches, teachers, and mentors I've encountered along my journey have also shaped and inspired me. Studio 2 Stadium represents more than just a business venture; it's the culmination of my passion for dance, the knowledge I've gained, and my desire to give back. This platform is a tribute to everyone who has supported and believed in me, and it's my way of paying it forward and returning that positive energy.

As I say goodbye to the University of Colorado, I carry with me the love and appreciation of a coach whose life has been forever changed by the incredible individuals I've had the privilege to work with. To my team, past and present, thank you for the memories, the laughter, and the shared moments of growth. Here's to new beginnings and the endless possibilities that lie ahead.

The comeback is always stronger than the setback.
