The 90-Day Window That Can Change Your Recruitment
College dance recruitment doesn't pause in the summer, it accelerates. Learn why May through July is the most overlooked recruiting window and how to get in front of coaches before fall even starts.
Every year, there's a stretch of time that quietly shapes more recruiting outcomes than almost anything else and most dancers let it slip by without a second thought.
That window is May through July.
When school wraps up and seasons end, something shifts. For the first time in months, college coaches aren't tied to campus. They're out in the world traveling, teaching, and watching dancers in person at combines, conventions, and intensives across the country.
This is where real visibility happens.
Why summer hits different
During the school year, coaches are heads-down managing their current team with game-day logistics, nationals prep, appearances, team management and so much more. Recruitment doesn't stop, but it competes with a lot.
Summer clears that noise. Coaches actively seek out future talent, and they're doing it face-to-face, not just scrolling through DMs.
You can send a video any day of the year. But getting in a room with a coach, being someone they can actually watch, talk to, and remember, that's harder to manufacture. Summer hands you that chance.
And familiarity matters more than most dancers realize. A coach who sees you once might know your name. A coach who sees you three times across a summer? That's someone they're thinking about when roster conversations start.
You don't have to be on a plane every weekend
This is where a lot of dancers check out mentally, assuming they'd need to travel constantly to make this work. They don't.
College programs regularly host local clinics and camps. Coaches travel to studios to teach master classes, not the other way around. Conventions and combines happen in more cities than most people expect. A quick ask to your local studio about drop-ins can open doors that weren't advertised anywhere.
The dancers who build the most momentum in summer aren't always the ones logging the most flight miles. They're the ones who show up consistently, wherever they can.
The real obstacle
Access isn't the hardest part, scattered information is.
Opportunities live across different websites, Instagram pages, studio newsletters, and registration portals. By the time you piece it all together, you've either missed the deadline or burned an hour you didn't have.
That's the problem we built Studio 2 Stadium to solve. We pull college dance events, clinics, and exposure opportunities into one place so you can actually see what's out there and register for what fits your schedule, without the scavenger hunt.
One ask going into summer
Be intentional about getting in front of coaches. Not once, not randomly, consistently.
This stretch of time feels like an offseason. It isn't. A lot of recruiting momentum starts here, quietly, while most dancers are waiting for fall to get serious.
Don't let it pass by without being part of it.
