You Submitted Your Early Recruiting Video…Now What?
Your recruiting video is submitted, but your work isn't done. Discover the 8 key strategies that separate committed dancers from the competition during the critical post-submission phase of college dance recruiting.
Submitting your recruiting video is a huge milestone in the college dance journey. It represents months (if not years) of preparation and training, and it’s a big step toward your future. But after you hit “submit,” it’s natural to wonder: now what?
The truth is, your recruiting journey doesn’t stop with the video. In fact, this stage can be one of the most important. While coaches and staff review materials, you have the opportunity to keep building momentum, refining your skills, and positioning yourself as a strong candidate.
1. Stay Patient
Silence doesn’t mean no, it means the process takes time.
Coaches and staff often receive dozens to hundreds of submissions, and reviewing them all takes time. A lack of immediate response doesn’t mean a program isn’t interested. Trust the work you’ve already done, and give programs the space they need to carefully review.
2. Keep Training
Your video may be submitted, but your development as a dancer continues. Keep refining your technique, stamina, skill set and performance quality. By staying consistent, you’ll be prepared so any additional videos they may require, invite only clinics, or auditions for programs that didn’t participate in the common recruiting video format.
3. Attend Clinics and Events
Coaches recruit more than talent, they recruit personality.
Clinics provide an opportunity to show coaches more than what they saw on your video. They’re watching how you interact, how you respond to feedback, and how you carry yourself in a team setting. Clinics are where your personality can shine and a coach can get you know you better as a person, not just as a dancer.
4. Keep Your Options Open
It’s natural to have a dream school, but flexibility is key. You may find that a program you hadn’t considered feels like a stronger fit for your goals and values. Keep an open mind and you might be surprised by where you feel most at home.
5. Keep Grades Up
Academics matter. Strong grades keep scholarships, eligibility, and program opportunities on the table. Prioritize schoolwork alongside your training to make sure you’re setting yourself up for success in every area.
6. Stay Organized
Recruitment rewards dancers who stay on top of the details.
Between submissions, emails, deadlines, and clinics, it’s easy to lose track of where you stand. Create a system to track communication with programs. Tools like Studio 2 Stadium’s Common Recruiting Video Submission can help streamline this process and give you clarity.
7. Keeping Building Relationships
Recruitment is about connection, not just skill. Stay in touch with programs by connecting with current team members, showing up at events, and being authentic in your interactions. Coaches notice when dancers demonstrate genuine interest and consistency.
8. Care for Yourself
The recruitment process can be stressful, but balance matters. Make time for recovery, sleep, and mental well-being. A healthy dancer not only performs better but also shows up with the energy, poise and confidence coaches want to see.
